The finest glass paperweights from the classic period (1845-1870) were made in France. Most of those were made by the "big three" glasshouses which made weights; Baccarat, Clichy and Saint Louis. Weights we have for sale by these makers can be found by clicking on the appropriate button above. Some of the greatest weights ever made were produced a little later, in 1878, by the fourth French glassworks in Pantin.
There were a small number of weights made in France during the nineteenth century which were not made by the "big four." These include weights by St. Mande, Grenelle and others whose origins we have not yet identified. Over the past decade I have been doing quite a bit of research on these makers and we do occasionally have a paperweight for sale from these smaller makers. It is those weights which we will feature on this page when we have something interesting for sale.
